character Design: Film Noir "Bad Cop"

Here is a more finalized Concept drawing of Captain Gregorius. I might go back to the drawing board and start from scratch just to possibly get some more variety, but overall I'm happy with the way this one turned out.

GRANDE LIBRE

This is a character I had worked with in Character Design, and he really grew on me. I made him a bit more realistic with my rendering, but still kept the proportional exageration. I am planning on Modeling him sometime within the next two months. I really cant wait.

Character Design: Film Noir "Bad Cop"

SO...this assignment is really awesome. We were given a film noir description of Gregorious, a captain who has been indicted a few times, because basically he executes justice with a knee to the groin or a kick to the ribs. Here is the description, and below that are the images I have started to develop:

The homicide skipper that year was a Captain Gregorius, a type of copper that is getting rarer but by no means extinct, the kind that solves crimes with a bright light, the soft sap, the kick to the kidneys, the knee to the groin, the fist to the solar plexus, the night stick to the base of the spine. Six month later he was indicted for perjury before a grand jury, booted without trial, and later stamped to death by a big stallion on his ranch in Wyoming.
Right now I was his raw meat. He sat behind his desk with his coat off and his sleeves rolled almost to his shoulders. He was as bald as a bick and getting heavy around the waist like all hard-muscled men in middle age. His eyes were fish gray. His big nose was a network of burst capillaries. He was drinking coffee and not quietly. His blunt strong hands had hairrs thick on thei backs. Grizzled tufts stuck out of his ears. He pawned something on his desk and looked at Green.

SO! Please let me know your thoughts on what works, what you would add or change. thanx

Concept Art: Ogre Update

I got a lot of online critiques about his proportions. Before this character was just TOO top heavey, even though I wanted it to be exagerated it was too much. People also told me the head was too small. So he is the update and edits.

sculpture: Gorilla (with hair)

I decided to do the hair style by applying the hairs individually.....yeah, ...I guess I'm crazy, but it worked. I still have to smooth the hair so it isn't SO extreme. After that is done, I can apply the clothing, bandana, and bullet chain.

3d Modeling: Project #2 Cyborg animal

I decided to do a cyborg gorilla, instead of a cyborg orangutan. We had to do a simple proxy of our model and draw the mechanics over it. So I have a lot more modeling to do to this gorilla, and then when it looks nice, I'm going to model the robotic arm and eye.

here is an early stage of the project.

character Design: FACES

So, we had to design 5 different face types using 5 different styles. Then we had to pick one of those faces and draw 5 different emotions. I decided to use a charicature of my teacher that I drew for the 5 different emotions

3d Modeling: Project #1 UPDATE

Here are more unicorn pictures. I finally got his shape right. I wanted it more massive and inimidating. Here is a picuture of the 3D mesh, and another with the shader applied. I will hopefully have time to texture it tomorrow.

Composition CLASS: DEPTH

The goal was to use size, placement, overlap, and perspective to create depth in the composition. I decided to design draw a robot terrorizing a city. Here are the results.

face sketches

For Character Design class, we have to develop faces of 5 characters. Then take on of the characters and do 5 different emotions with his face. I choose to do a charicature of my teachure (the guy on the top with the spikey hair) and I will use him for the 5 emotions. Hopefully he will find this amusing and not insulting. Anyway, the other guy is a friend I met at VFS named Jason.

3D Modeling: Project #1 (Unicorn)

Here is a screen capture of my unicorn, it is still in an early stage. I plan to isolate all the muscle groups, and maybe texture it if I have time to texture. There is still much work to do with the legs. I have spent most time on the face at this point.

SKATER ANIMALS

Character design: Bear, skater

An Update on my Bear. I changed him stylistically.

Here is the first part of modeling my "Skater Bear". It's part of a friendly competition some of the VFS students are doing on the side. A group of "Skater Animals" is the concept, and each student designs a different figure.

ConceptART.org: Ethereal Stalker

So every once in a while I participate in an online Forum competition at Conceptart.org. called, "Creature of the Week". This weeks creature is called an Ethereal Stalker, and this was my idea. A description, along with all the other submissions by other artists can be found here http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76784

here is the picture:

Composition CLASS: MOVEMENT

The goal of this composition project is to create a sense of movement. Movement using the COMPOSITION, not the CHARACTERS poses necessarily. So, that is why the camera angle is tilted to create a dynamic composition, along with the large man in the air and the small man on the ground creating an unbalanced composition. The ring ropes act as lines that excetuate the line of action in the picture. Anyway, here it is:

Concept Art: Ogre

So, I have a lot of plans for characters to model. My goal is just to make a bunch of character designs to choose from and model the best ones. So, with no furth adu....here is my Ogre:

PLAID AVENGER: vs. the bear (Russia)

So I talked with John Boyer, and I'm going to continue doing artwork for the textbooks second addition (which should be really fun).

Character Design: POSING #2

Character Designs

Here are a few designs I have been messing around with for 3D modeling this year. The first is a T-rex that some character would ride around on like a horse. The second is a kick ass orangutan. We have to design a cybernautic animal, so I'm designing a computer hacking orangutan, who is part of a bad ass monkey group of theives.
